Resting at the Redeemer’s Feet: A Lesson in Trust

Finding Rest in the Redeemer

In the book of Ruth, we find one of the most tender and faith-filled moments in Scripture—Ruth laying at Boaz’s feet, an act of humility, trust, and deep dependence. This moment in Ruth 3:7-9 is a beautiful foreshadowing of how we, as believers, find rest at the feet of our true Redeemer, Jesus Christ.

“And she came softly, and uncovered his feet, and lay down.” (Ruth 3:7)

This act was not one of seduction but of surrender. Ruth was trusting Boaz to be her kinsman-redeemer, to cover her in protection and provide for her future. This mirrors how Jesus, our greater Redeemer, calls us to come and rest at His feet.

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)

Ruth’s Rest vs. Our Rest in Christ

Ruth’s posture at Boaz’s feet is a powerful picture of trust and surrender. It was an appeal for redemption and rest. In the same way, Jesus invites us to come to Him when we are burdened, promising to give us rest not just for our bodies, but for our souls.

1. Ruth Sought Refuge Under Boaz’s Wings

Ruth was seeking Boaz’s covering, knowing that he had the power to redeem her (Ruth 3:9). This reflects how we seek refuge under the wings of Christ:

“He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge.” (Psalm 91:4)

2. Ruth Had to Trust the Redeemer’s Plan

Laying at Boaz’s feet required trust—she had to believe that he would do what was right. Jesus calls us to do the same:

“Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Matthew 11:29)

Resting in Jesus means trusting Him with our burdens, our future, and our very lives.

3. Boaz Redeemed Ruth, Just as Jesus Redeems Us

Boaz did not turn Ruth away; he honored her, provided for her, and redeemed her (Ruth 4:9-10). Jesus, our ultimate Redeemer, does even more—He redeems us eternally, making us His own.

“For you were bought with a price.” (1 Corinthians 6:20)

Will You Lay at the Redeemer’s Feet?

Just as Ruth found security at Boaz’s feet, we find true peace at the feet of Jesus. The world offers temporary relief, but Christ offers eternal rest. He calls us to come to Him, surrender our striving, and trust Him completely.

Are you weary? Burdened? In need of redemption? Come, lay down your worries at the feet of the Redeemer. He is faithful, gentle, and powerful to save.
